A new dawn for Centurion House

Blueoak Estates has revealed details of its latest development that will see the ambitious and unique transformation of Chester’s Centurion House into 28 luxury apartments.

Set inside the city’s famous Walls, the imposing structure on Upper Northgate Street will undergo a radical overhaul both internally and externally, establishing the foundations of a new community in what is considered to be the most vibrant quarter within the city.

Blueoak has become renowned for its sensitive and thoughtful redevelopment of forgotten buildings, creating relevant and aspirational spaces to live, whilst preserving the structure using an approach that epitomises the phrase, ‘carbon capture’.

Iain MacLean, Managing Director of Blueoak Estates explained: “We’re incredibly excited about this scheme and what it represents on many different levels. The Northgate Street area is a vibrant part of the city with so much happening in terms of culture, food, retail and leisure. Centurion House is a large imposing structure designed and built as a commercial property, its future in its current guise was uncertain in a changing landscape.”

Upon completion in Quarter 2 2024, Centurion House will include 28 one and two-bedroom apartments. The scheme will offer lift access, a stunning and secluded communal garden located right in the centre of the building, private parking to all units, views across the city and Clwyddian mountains to select units, with views of Chester Cathedral to others.

Centurion House is surrounded by a raft of cool independent cafés and restaurants and has The Story House (library, theatre, cinema), New Market, Picture House, Chester Cathedral, Chester Town Hall and Library literally right on its door step. In years past, the site was home to the Chester Northgate Brewery Company and neighboured the former Fire Station.

Iain continued: “Due to the high spec of the development, and the facilities and infrastructure within, we believe these homes will hold widespread appeal – from younger creatives and professionals, to rightsizers and investors.

“There is so much to be proud of here and it’s exciting to see the beginnings of Centurion House’s next chapter begin. An obvious choice for this site would be to demolish and begin again from the ground up, but we have chosen to work within the parameters of what stands and repurpose it for a new beginning. In doing this, we are saving huge quantities of waste from landfill, minimising our carbon footprint and creating an exciting legacy of quality, luxury homes that will sit at the heart of a new, thriving community.”
