King Charles III Coronation – Organise your own street party

King Charles III and Camilla’s Coronation will be a historic event this year. Many communities may wish to mark the occasion with events over the Coronation Weekend between Saturday 6 and Monday 8 May 2023.

An additional bank holiday has been granted on 8th May and, as with other significant royal occasions, this is an opportunity to spend time and celebrate with friends, family and communities.

Where events or gatherings are planned, communities need to coordinate and document their event as with any other type of gathering, to maintain the safety of the public. For large or complex events, there will need to be additional conversations with Cheshire West and Chester Council to consider arrangements, who are now accepting requests to hold street parties. You can view more on submitting an application to the council here to organise your very own street party.

To help with your planning we have left below a to do list when organising your Street party!

Organising a street party can be a fun and exciting way to bring people together in your community. Here are some steps to help you plan and execute a successful street party:

  1. Obtain necessary permissions: Check with your council to see if you need any permits or permissions to hold a street party. They may require you to fill out paperwork, provide insurance, or meet other requirements. (link here)
  2. Select a date and time: Choose a date and time that works well for the majority of your community. Consider holidays, major events, and other activities that may conflict with your party. (Coronation weekend 6th-8th May)
  3. Choose a location: Decide where in your street you want to hold the party. You may want to block off a section of the street, use a local park, or hold the party in someone’s front yard.
  4. Recruit volunteers: Find people in your community who are willing to help with the party. You will need people to set up, clean up, provide entertainment, and manage the event.
  5. Plan activities: Decide on the activities you want to include in your party. This may include games, live music, food vendors, and other forms of entertainment. (You can pick up essentials or takeaways from a range of Chester’s businesses!)
  6. Advertise the event: Spread the word about your party through social media, flyers, and word of mouth. Encourage people to invite their friends and family to attend.
  7. Set up and decorate: On the day of the party, set up tables, chairs, and decorations. Make sure that you have enough food and drinks for everyone. (Check out stores in the city for bunting, paper plates and fun dec’s to make your street party the best *pictured Ryman Coronation Range available from £2!)
  8. Enjoy the party: Once everything is set up, enjoy the party with your community! Be sure to thank your volunteers and enjoy the festivities.
  9. Clean up: After the party, clean up the area and dispose of any trash or debris. Be sure to leave the area clean and tidy.

With these steps, you can organise a fun and successful street party that brings your community together.
