BID Maintenance Operative

Chester BID is the Business Improvement District (BID) for Chester City Centre. Chester BID represents over 460 businesses and is tasked with making Chester as attractive as possible to both consumers and businesses. We work closely with public and private sector partners to drive footfall, encourage consumer spend and make Chester as welcoming as possible.

The Role

Are you passionate about keeping Chester City Centre looking clean, tidy, and ready for business? If so, Chester BID is looking for a BID Maintenance Operative.

The position is ideal for a self-starter that is task orientated and passionate about ‘The detail’. You will enjoy working outdoors and be confident using a range of cleaning equipment and techniques. You will have a good knowledge of general DIY and

maintenance and able to assist businesses with small repairs.

The BID Maintenance Operative will be a key member of the BID team and play a high- profile ambassadorial role. You’ll need good people skills and a supportive approach to helping businesses. The BID Maintenance Operative will work alongside our local authority partners cleaning privately owned land and property so the ability to build good working

relationships with a range of stakeholders is a must.

Typical Duties

  • Carry out daily visual checks of the BID area, building your local knowledge and identifying problematic areas.
  • Compliment the councils current cleaning schedule by cleaning privately owned areas within the BID area on a rolling basis.
  • Take responsibility for the operation and maintenance of BID cleaning equipment.
  • Clean windows, doorways, and any other external areas of BID businesses at their

    request.

  • Provide a ‘quick response’ service to clean grot spots on privately owned land.
  • Assist in the maintenance of our floral displays.
  • Assist businesses to undertake minor repairs to their premises.
  • Remove flyposting and graffiti, escalating incidents to Cheshire West & Cheshire

    Council when appropriate.

  • Escalate instances of damage or vandalism to the council and police when

    appropriate.

  • Support the BID Business Engagement Manager and City Host to address cleaning

    and maintenance issues raised by BID members.

  • Co-ordinating activity with external cleaning contractors to tackle problematic areas

    and maximise impact.

  • Applying a health and safety led approach to all duties.

Personal Specification

  • Friendly, outgoing, and approachable.
  • Able to work alone plan and your working time effectively.
  • A good knowledge of health and safety practices.
  • Passionate about providing excellent customer service.
  • Able to build relationships with a range of customers, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Experience in carrying out general cleaning duties in an outdoor environment and

    in all weather conditions.

  • Experience using cleaning equipment, machinery, and different cleaning

    techniques.

  • Confident carrying out general repairs and maintenance.
  • Understanding of the difference between public and private property.
  • Basic phone skills for reporting issues to the council via their app and photographing.

Location Chester City Centre.

Hours

Working Hours: 20 hours per week, 8am – 12pm.
Working Days: 5 days per week, days flexible to be agreed at interview. Salary: £12 per hour.
