CH1ChesterBID gives warm welcome to new Ambassador

Siobhan Humphries has joined the Welcome Ambassadors to aid with the busy summer period in the city centre

CH1ChesterBID’s popular Welcome Ambassadors have strengthened their team for the summer with the appointment of Chester University student, Siobhan Humphries.

Easily recognisable in their three-piece suits, overcoats and bowler hats, Siobhan will form part of a three-strong Welcome Ambassador team in Chester, tasked with meeting and greeting visitors, offering directions around the city centre and pointing out local attractions.

The scheme was first introduced by CH1ChesterBID in 2015 to help create a better visitor welcome in the city centre. Since then, Chester’s Welcome Ambassadors have greeted more than 40,000 people, as well as supporting CH1ChesterBID’s city centre manager Nick White by flagging up environmental issues in the city centre.

Carl Critchlow, BID manager at CH1ChesterBID said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Siobhan to the team. Having previously worked in the visitor information centre, Siobhan has a great understanding of the city and has experienced life as a visitor and resident, so is perfectly placed to assist with any visitor queries or recommendations.

“One of our key pledges as a Business Improvement District was to provide a world-class welcome to the city and our Welcome Ambassadors are a fantastic example of how we’ve put that into action. They provide people with a warm, friendly face and help to create a positive and memorable experience for visitors throughout their time in the city.”

Twenty-one-year-old Siobhan, who’s originally from Stoke-on-Trent, commented: “Having lived in Chester for the past three years, I have a real appreciation for the city’s heritage, cultural attractions and its varied and extensive range of shops and restaurants.

“I’m incredibly excited to start and look forward to becoming a familiar face in the city centre this summer. Hopefully I’ll get to help a range of visitors and introduce them to some of the city’s hidden gems.”

Siobhan will join current Welcome Ambassadors, Luka Morrell and Monica Roman, who speak more than six languages between them, including English, Italian, German and Romanian. The team will be on hand seven days a week throughout standard business hours during the summer period alongside the school summer holidays.

The Welcome Ambassadors scheme was introduced following an exclusive deal with London-based firm The Welcome People, which has established similar welcome teams in towns and cities across the UK, including London, Birmingham and Manchester.
