On Northgate Street, next to Chester Cathedral you will find Veeno. An Italian Wine Bar & Restaurant. The aroma of Italian wine and cooking extends the magic even more so, who needs to book a flight when we have this escape on our doorstep?
Veeno has available Wine Tasting sessions, currently “A Trip To Sicily”. This includes 6 wines as well as 6 food pairings. All of the wines are from the family vineyard in Sicily called Caruso and Minini giving the tasting a personal touch. You can read more about Vein’s Family Vineyard here: https://www.veenobars.com/our-family-vineyard
“Every single grapevine was planted following the best combination of exposure, soil and climate. “
The wine tasting is £34.95 per person.
We went to visit Chester’s General Manager’s Simon and Imogen who joined us on a journey through Sicily. Below are their highlighted wine from the wine tasting. Let us know what you think!
Inzolia – Imogen’s Highlight.
This grape dates back to 1696 and was found by a gentleman called Cupani who was a botanist and an italian naturalist. It is a fruity, crispy and soft wine, with hits of apples and pears as well as a hint of spice on the nose which is some white pepper. Inzolia has elegant and intense fragrances, which is a result of ancient equilibrium between the strong and generous soil and the vine that seems to never suffer, while also being clean and graceful.
Cutaja – Simon’s Highlight.
This wine is made from the Nero d’Avola grape, which is the most planted red grape (and arguably the most important grape) in Sicily. This is a great Christmasy and rich full bodied red wine. The name of this particular wine comes from a water rounded stone found on the vineyard called Cuti.
The grape has a long aging process for a total of 24 months. 18 months is in french and american tonneaux, then a further 6 in the bottle due to the glasses thickness so it is able to mature. Cutaja is full of red fruits such as currents and prunes with hints of cocoa. It is a silky, spicy and persistent red wine.
