Pledge to BEE THE CHANGE

Pledge to BEE THE CHANGE

27/07/2019 until 01/09/2019

Pledge your support to help make Chester the UK’s most bee-friendly city!

For nearly 2 decades, bees everywhere have been disappearing by the millions.

Small actions can help major change. Join us in the revolution to reverse the shifting decline of the bee population.

As pollinators bees are a vital part of both the human and animal food chains. They may be small, but bees, humans and plants are all linked, and the decline of bees can impact hugely on our lives. We are aiming to raise awareness about the plight of bees and their importance to food security.

Pledge to:

Plant and care for bee friendly flowers . The more you plant, the happier the bees will be.Bee-friendly plants include Foxglove, Snapdragon, Crocus, Lavendar, Geranium, fruit trees plus many more.

PROVIDE A WATER SOURCE FOR BEES

Provide a year-round, clean source of water for bees. This can be a river, pond, irrigation system, rainwater collection system or smaller scale system such as a bird bath

PROVIDE A SHELTER FOR BEES

Leave some ground undisturbed and untilled, as well as some dead trees, sticks and plants on the property for wild bees to nest in.

PROTECT BEES FROM PESTICIDES

To keep your lawn and garden happy, healthy and teeming with life for pollinators, you should avoid the products that contain neonicotinoids. Look for members of the neonicotinoid family on the labels and avoid the following: acetamiprid, clothianidin, imidacloprid, nitenpyram, nithiazine, thiacloprid and thiamethoxam.

Shop for bee-friendly foods such as locally sourced honey.

Choose bee-friendly gardening by minimising the use of pesticides.
