CH1BID elves bring festive cheer to Chester school

It was beginning to look a lot like Christmas at one school in Chester this week after our resident Chester elves dropped in to spread some festive cheer.

CH1ChesterBID’s ChELFie and ELFie made a surprise visit to see more than 100 children at University Cathedral Free School on Union Street, handing out free holographic glasses that turn ordinary lights into candy canes, snowmen and other Christmas shapes. The elves also posed for pictures and gave out hugs and high-fives to help get the youngsters into the holiday spirit before the Christmas break.

“Our pupils were so excited when ChELFie and ELFie walked out onto the playground,” said Eleanor Lesley Business Manager at the University Cathedral Free School. “The holographic glasses they gave out were amazing – I know many of the children were looking forward to showing them off to their parents when they got home!”

“We actually had our Christmas party on the same day so having the CH1ChesterBID elves here beforehand made it the perfect day and there was a lovely festive atmosphere throughout the entire school.”

The free holographic glasses, which come in five different varieties showing candy canes, snowmen, Father Christmas, snowflakes and reindeers have been handed out in the city centre since the ’12 Days of Christmas’-themed parade and lights switch-on at the end of November.

Julie Charlton, Marketing Manager at CH1ChesterBID, said: “Through our Chester Kidsmas programme, we’re celebrating the childhood magic of Christmas in the city centre, so we thought it would be fantastic to sprinkle some of that fun and excitement in a local school.

“The children at University Cathedral Free School were so happy to see ChELFie and ELFie and it was wonderful to see them having so much fun.”

The free holographic glasses are still available from the enchanting Santa’s Post Office, as well as the Visitor Information Centre and selected retailers throughout the city centre. ChELFie and ELFie will also be handing them out to city centre visitors in the run up to Christmas.

Santa’s Post Office – a free Christmas activity located on Northgate Street opposite Chester Library – will be open from this Saturday and every day up until 24 December from 10:00am until 4:00pm.
